The Painted Hills Vacation Rentals is family owned and
operated by a mother and daughter team. My family is
originally from Germany but we have lived in the States
since almost 25 years now. After running a successful
restaurant in Seattle for ten years we felt that it was time
for a change, and after much traveling fell in love with
Eastern Oregon. My parents, both artists, settled down in
Mitchell and spend much time and energy to remodel the
houses that make up the two vacation rentals today. My
mother, a writer and master gardener, created the beautiful
garden that connects the two properties. My father painted
many of the pictures adorning the walls of the rooms in both
the houses. After studying herbal medicine at Bastyr
University in Seattle, I came here to build this business.
We currently live on Burnt Ranch Road (about 20 miles
from the town of Mitchell), past the Painted Hills along
John Day River. From beautiful hiking trails, the best spots
to fish and swim along the river, as well as scenic drives
in this rugged region -- we know and love the area well and
can show you many places off the beaten track.

Journey Through Time Route - The Journey Through Time
stretches 286 miles through north central to eastern
Oregon. It winds through five Oregon counties, beginning
in the community of Biggs and ends in Baker City.
